Was it clairvoyance on part of the UPA Government to float a Section 25 company in 2013, called Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) to control the accounting and tax collection management of Goods and Services Tax (GST)? For a government that tended to be slow, it was a swift move to float this company with 51 percent private shares (see the graphic below). Centre and State Governments have only 49 percent in GSTN. Being a Section 25 company, GSTN is a not-for-profit organization. Then why do private entities have a majority stake in it? What is in it for them? As of Jan 31st, 2016 the list of shareholders in GSTN is- Creation of GST involves Constitutional Amendments and this GST administration and tax management company should have been ideally created by a consortium of Centre ...

Is there a tax loophole that the ex-Finance Minister devised that he himself is taking advantage of? The 200 page Income Tax (IT) report shows that the former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has engaged in a funny deal with his wife Nalini and son Karti. As per the agreements seized in the joint raid of Income Tax and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), there appears to be an inspired scheme to fool the taxman through bogus agreements. After getting out of power in mid 2014, Chidambaram who claims to be a resident in Delhi’s Gymkhana Club enters into curious rent agreement with Nalini and Karti living in Chennai. As per thagreement Nalini and Karti own a floor of a multi-storeyed building having the address 115A at posh Jor Bagh in Delhi. These two owners decided to rent one of the floors

Narendra Modi has turned India into a magnet: McKinsey CEO Dominic Barton

Dominic Barton, the CEO of the world's largest whiteshoe consulting firm, McKinsey, says that India is back on the priority list of CEOs after Narendra Modi's ascension to power. "People had given up on India. They felt India is too complicated and it was difficult to get anything done. It had dropped in the last five years on people's priority (list). I think it has gone right back up, people are interested, obviously people are going to want to see action but I think the feeling is they will, because this government seems serious," says Barton. On his part, the McKinsey CEO is again advising his clients to bet big on India. "I was not (advising clients to come to India) two years ago because it was complicated... and companies and clients were deeply frustrated with the bureaucracy, n...
